S2. E22. Luke 13:18-21 (Part 3)
===
[00:00:00] God cares so much about his people that he doesn't want those things that have seeped in to continue. But we have an opportunity to plant seeds that will impact future generations in a positive way. So what are you doing today for your health to prepare for future generations?
Hello, hello and welcome back to your Daily Bread podcast. We are back in Luke, no surprise there. We are in Luke [00:01:00] 13 and we are continuing on, we're gonna be talking about verses 18 through 21 today, and I am so excited because I just got back from London , and. I got to see Hamilton when I was there and I was absolutely fangirling.
I love Hamilton. I love musical theater. I have been wanting to see Hamilton for like 10 years on Broadway, and it was just, it was so cool to see it in London. And if any of you are Hamilton fans or fanatics, and you know this line, but there's one line in Hamilton that says Legacy. What is a legacy? It's planting seeds in a garden that you never get to see.
And I'm like, Ooh, that's so good. Anyway, that is the prelude leading into the scripture that we are about to read because I just saw Hamilton and then I read the scripture and I'm like, oh my gosh. Gosh, you are so good. You are speaking and, I just can't wait to dive into this. Father, God, thank you so much for your [00:02:00] word, Lord.
Thank you for speaking to us. Lord. I just pray that me every single listener that we. Sit long enough in your presence to hear you speak to us personally, and that you give us ears to hear that you help us to be more sensitive to your spirit and the work that you're doing in our lives, Lord, and I pray that you help us to listen.
Lord, we go to you so much with so many things, but I just pray that you help us to listen at the end of our days. Lord, I pray that we give you the last word. I pray that in the morning we. Go to you first. Acknowledge you first acknowledge you in all of our ways. Thank you for never leaving us, nor for aking us, even when we are distracted or rushing, or we get too busy to get in your presence and get in your word.
Lord, please forgive us for all the times that we were just talking, talking, talking very prayering, but didn't listen to your response, the word. Thank you for still depositing wisdom, for sanctifying us, refining us, pruning us.
Thank you for the journey that you have each of [00:03:00] us on. Lord, we are just so grateful. I pray that, this episode speaks to so many listeners personally, Lord, and gets them excited to steward their bodies well. To honor you and future generations, Lord, 'cause you care so deeply for generations. I pray that everything that is said in this episode is not what you want to say, but it is what you want to say through me, through your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus's mighty name we pray. Amen. Verse 18, in Luke 13 says, then Jesus asked, what is the kingdom of God? Like, what shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed. Which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches again. He asked, what shall I compare the kingdom of God to?
It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about 60 pounds of flour until it worked all the way through the dough. Oh, so good. God's word [00:04:00] is just. So good. So y'all know he just saw Hamilton. I heard that line is one of the like most clever lines in the show. I mean, there's just so much in that, in that musical.
But then I read this and the Lord said, yes, there are seeds that we plant in our gardens that we don't get to see the fruit of, but the seeds are still worth planting anyway. And we are called to still do that and plant that today. And God cares so much about generations. This is why we see in the Old Testament sometimes he would just wipe out whole generations of people.
And people that aren't putting the Bible in context and don't know God's true nature might see that as cruel or destructive or reckless. God's not any of those things. God's very intentional, very thoughtful, always has a plan. And always is working things out for our good. And sometimes things are so rotten in generations and God knows that things [00:05:00] go from generation to generation to generation.
That's why we have to break generational curses because things are just passed down and when so much corruption and so much wickedness is passed down from generation to gener, sometimes you have to wipe out whole generation and start fresh because things just, they continue in the culture and in the family lines.
And it can be very destructive and God cares so much about his people that he doesn't want those things that have seeped in to continue. But we have an opportunity to plant seeds that will impact future generations in a positive way. So what are you doing today for your health to prepare for future generations?
I think that this is so important. I'm already thinking about. Marriage and kids and bearing children, and I wanna make sure that I have a vessel that can do all of those things, that can sustain me for the calling that the Lord has on my life. So we need to have eyes to see things the way that God sees things and God is [00:06:00] looking at the future. And he is, look at the impact of generations.
I think it's important for us to be forward thinking in that way. Not that we have to be worried about tomorrow. 'cause he says, don't worry about tomorrow. God's already gone before you and has worked everything out and is in your future. So we don't have to worry about the future, but we can be forward thinking in our plans and setting goals that don't necessarily have an end date, but help you just steward your body consistently over the long term. That's better than doing things for the short term. So I love that this man planted a seed in his garden and it grew, it became a tree and birds perched in its branches.
The work that this man did made it easier for people or birds later on. They were able to just be perched there. So what are you doing now that is going to set your kids or other people in your sphere, other generations to have it a bit easier? What are you doing now to set the future generation up for success?
A lot of people see this in terms of like building [00:07:00] generational wealth, for example, like really stewarding their finances. Well, there's so much that you can do for your physical body as well. Like, isn't it so much easier if you were a grandma and you were like a physically fit grandma and you could be there for helping to take care of the grandkids and being able to pour into them and keep up with them and vacation with them and like, that's going to make that grandchild's life so much easier.
So what can you be doing now to make sure that you have the strength? And the health at the end of your life to be able to pour into and be there for that next generation to make things a bit easier for them so that your grandkids could be that bird that's just kind of perched on the branch that you built by you planting seeds.
And you know what? You might plant a seed and not even get to see the tree that grows or the branch and God's saying that's okay too. So there's some branches that in some trees, some fruit that we do get to see. And there's things that we don't get to see. But it's our job to continuously be planting these seeds now and doing what we can and not just thinking [00:08:00] about ourselves, but thinking about eternity, thinking about the kingdom of God, thinking about future generations, and legacy. And we plant the seed, God waters it so that things can really take root and grow. So we're not doing things in our own strength, but it's God that makes it happen
This first also got me thinking about how. We are grafted into God's family.
We are grafted into his tree. He is the vine and we are the branches. There's just so much imagery there that that is so similar in that crossover. And I praise God that we are crafted into his family and because of Christians before us that. Risk their life for our faith, we are able to be grafted into God's family so easily and we are the birds that can be perched up so easily on these branches.
It's just, it's so cool to think about and how much easier can we make it for other people
to be perched. And whatever that looks like. Y'all know, I'm always trying to think, okay, how [00:09:00] does this relate to our relationship with food and stewarding our bodies? And I just think God cares so much about legacy and what seeds can you be planting for your health today that will set you up for success for the future, to be there for future generations and maybe change the trajectory from your family. Like if you have diabetes that runs in your family, but you're working on stewarding your body now and you actually don't get diagnosed with diabetes now, like your kids are gonna say, oh no, no. You know, that doesn't, that doesn't hurt my family. My parents didn't have that.
It makes it so that they have less of a risk of a chronic illness like that. I mean, you could be changing the trajectory of people's health. And the diseases and the chronic health conditions that they are predisposed to genetically. You could be changing that 'cause our lifestyle matters.
So I just pray that you all with this scripture. Ask the Lord. Lord, what do you want me to focus on? That's going to set other generations up for success. What seeds can [00:10:00] I plant that's going to contribute positively to your kingdom for your people and the people that haven't even been grafted into the family yet?
What seeds can I plant with people today? What does that look like in general for the kingdom of God? And also what does that look like for stewarding my body? What do I need to do for my health that's going to set me my family, future generations, my legacy? Up for success. And if you need help with any of this and that lifestyle really stewarding your body well, I encourage you to head to the show notes and book a free 20 minute call with me.
Would love to give you some support on that call. We'll walk through how you're currently eating. I'll give you some feedback. I'll give you a couple scriptures that speak into your situation personally and we'll make sure that you leave some tangible action steps so that you know how to start stewarding your body God's way and to find food freedom, true food freedom in Christ.
