S2. E19. Guest ep with Callie Gualey (feat. Ephesians 2:10)
===
[00:00:00] Y'all. I am so excited to introduce you to this guest y'all. This week we have Cali coming on the podcast. She is a certified Pilates instructor. She is the host of Healthy But Human Podcast. She is a fellow entrepreneur that is doing things for the kingdom and truly making a, a huge kingdom impact. And she has overcome a bunch of chronic injuries from competitive figure skating and since then she has really fell in love with and felt called to.
Do more low impact movement, and she ended up launching Sweaty Studio, which is her virtual Pilates platform, and the spirit led her to shift her business and rebrand. Similar to me, rebranding my old business from Be About Being Better to your Daily Bread coat. Now she has Sunshine Pilates that is both in person and online in Jensen Beach, Florida.
And she's doing just amazing things. So I can't wait to [00:01:00] have y'all listen to this episode. She has so much wisdom. She's so relatable and, um, I love listening to her show and I'm really excited to have her on your daily bread. Let's dive in.
Abbie: Hello. Hello. Yay. Kelly, I am so excited to have you here. Thank you for joining your Daily Bread podcast, y'all, you are in for such a treat today. Thanks for being here, girl. Oh, thanks for [00:02:00] having me. I'm so excited to be on your podcast. Hey, awesome. Well, before we dive into our scripture and our, commentary on it, we'd love to just hear a little bit about your story and.
Really how you started your faith-based Pilates business in sunshine.
Callie: Yes. Oh my goodness. It is definitely. We'll just take it back a little bit to my testimonial. I'll try and keep it a little concise, but long story short, grew up Christian. Went to college in Miami. Before that, I started slowly falling away from the Lord and in college I completely stopped going to church.
I really fell away and I was kinda like, okay, what else is out there? I didn't stop believing in God, but I was like, okay, what is universe New age? All these things fell into that. For probably about a year or so and had two friends who didn't know each other invite me to the same church on the same weekend, and I still had the Holy Spirit in me and I felt prompted.
I was like, I wanna go. Like for some reason I was like, that sounds cool. Anyways, [00:03:00] I went to church at this place, literally. God spoke so clearly through the pastor, like it was, you cannot make it up. I was like, he's talking to me right now. I'm, everything he's talking about is what I'm experiencing in my life.
I was struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorder stuff as well, and he literally like, it just was so cool. So that. Kickstarted me to just get a devotional and start changing out my meditations that were not Christian meditations, but meditations, very much universe self shifted that to, okay, let's read the My Daily Devotional.
Let's start getting closer to the Lord again. Let's like shift into this again. And I really restarted my relationship with the Lord and I fell in love with him, and it was a slow refinement process over the next few years. Still being refined. Obviously we all are, but. it's been really, really cool.
literally, I look back at old playlists that I had as a Pilates instructor at the time. Literally all the songs, it was like super explicit rap music, all this just different. [00:04:00] Demon. I'm gonna call it demonic 'cause that's what it is, demonic music, that I had no idea it was that dark.
he's literally put it on my heart to just teach faith-based fitness. And the music is upbeat, hype, worship music. It's like house worship music, Christian rap music. Like it's so. Hype and fun. Yeah, and like just adding him into workouts because we can encounter Jesus literally in any moment of our day.
Like he just lights me up. Like it's just so much more fun and so much more freeing and. It's just I, yeah. So anyways, that's a long story short. I was also delivered from anxiety and depression, and that was incredible. Literally incredible felt. Things leave my head like it just things released. I mean, the Holy Spirit, just, it's, oh my goodness, I love the Holy Spirit, love the Lord.
So that's a very. Rapid fire testimony for you there.
Abbie: Love it. I love it. Wow. Wow. Well, thanks for, you know, diving into all of that too. And you can just feel the [00:05:00] Lord's joy just beaming off of you and you're just shining this light. And the fact that you're doing that with your business too and helping people, encounter the Lord with exercise is just, it.
It's, it really is inspiring. So you're doing great work, girl.
Callie: Thanks
Abbie: girl. And you are also the host of Healthy But Human Podcast. So I'd be curious to know too, just as we're starting out, like what does it mean for you to be healthy and also. Human.
Callie: Yeah, so it's actually really cool 'cause I started the podcast before I was walking with the Lord and at the time I was struggling a lot with the eating disorder, struggles with body image, all those things.
And I felt like a huge imposter because I was a fitness instructor who was struggling with all of these things. I was also had freshly come out of a breakup. I was going through a party era of my life in Miami and I basically was like. Had this realization and I was like, I'm holding myself to this level and standard of perfection.
I feel like a failure [00:06:00] if I'm not quote unquote living a perfectly healthy lifestyle. And so I was like, okay, this is really cool. 'cause I started sharing my story online. I started opening up and being like, I'm not always perfectly healthy. Like I absolutely love a good bowl of ice cream. I love a good glass of wine.
Like I started sharing these things. I was like, I'm struggling with this today. And. Anyways, long story short, change the name to Healthy but Human. And it's been really cool 'cause the podcast is now a faith-based podcast, but I feel like it's, it just, the podcast is supposed to be a very relatable space.
Like I want to be like a relatable space where we come as we are. We're not perfect people, but we're all trying to be more like Jesus. We're all trying to grow healthier mentally, physically, and spiritually. So I love to keep that element of relatability, balance and just helping people not feel so hard on themselves, all the time.
Abbie: Yeah. Just to give themselves grace.
Callie: Yeah, exactly. 'cause
Abbie: God gives us grace too. Exactly. Exactly. So good. And I think that that's actually motivating when you know I don't have to be perfect all the time. it makes it a more inviting environment for [00:07:00] us to continuously show up.
Callie: Yeah, for sure.
Abbie: Yeah. So good. All right, well I will praise in before we get into the word Father. God, thank you so much for this day. Lord. Thank you for connecting Callie and I Lord, thank you for, just this divine appointment, Lord, and this divine flow and, uh, divinely budding friendship. Lord, we're just so grateful to.
Be used by you as vessels. Thank you Lord, for calling us to this work, Lord. And I just pray that as we get into your word that. Things are just illuminated off the page, Lord, and that you speak so intimately and so personally to every single listener, and that the Holy Spirit does Lord, what only the Holy Spirit can do.
And that it convicts, it corrects in a loving and gentle way, to help us look more like you and embrace the masterpiece that you have made us and crafted us to be. [00:08:00] So, Lord, please let this not be what we want to say, but is what you want to say through us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen. Yeah. Awesome.
Alright, do you wanna dive into Ephesians two 10? Sure.
Callie: Well first of all, holy Spirit, just would you just open our spiritual eyes and ears to just hear new things? Through your word. All right. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us a new in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Abbie: So good. So good. And I have the NIV and that says, for we are God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
And I think both are so good that he is the potter and we are the clay and we're his handwork, but he looks us and he sees us as a masterpiece.
Callie: Yes, I love that. I even think about how, Jesus was a carpenter before he started his ministry on Earth, and it's like. [00:09:00] Everything is so symbolic in the Bible and in the Lord's walk too.
It's just, it's so cool. carpentry is so detailed. It's so, so detailed, and. I think there's no coincidence there. I mean, he has created us all, just so detailed, so intricate, like we were talking about on my podcast earlier, is that our bodies are so complex. the fact that we have all of these signals about different cravings, different hunger levels, all these different things.
it's literally the Lord's design is so cool.
Abbie: Yeah. No, it really isn't. Honestly, I've never, I mean, obviously I know that Jesus wants a carpenter, but I've never made that connection of how intentional that was. Yeah. That it was a, an occupation where he had to use his hands. Yes. How did that, like that
Callie: connection, it's, it's so cool.
the bible, it's like all these little things that, like little details that just jump out. You're like, wait. [00:10:00] That's so detailed. Like God is such a detailed father.
Abbie: Yeah. Hmm. And it makes me think because he's prepared all of these works for us in advance and the things that he planned for us long ago, he's had his hand on us.
Everything's been so intentional and he is molding us to do these things. So he knew everything that we were gonna go like nothing is a surprise to him.
Callie: Right. And also, I just think about how, he literally designed us. For his purpose. For us, like I think it's interesting how, part of my story is that I struggled with a bit of an addiction.
You could say to Adderall for a season when I was struggling with an eating disorder and I was working a job in public relations. And I just could not get myself to focus. And I was like, if I take this Adderall, then maybe I'll be able to actually do a better job at my job and not lose my job.
'cause I can actually focus. Well, the funny thing is I was able to focus on content creation, on [00:11:00] teaching Pilates, on all those things. I had no issues focusing. Mm-hmm. But it was really interesting to me 'cause At one point I had this revelation. I was like, I don't think God designed me to need Adderall for his purpose, for my life.
Like I think he designed my brain exactly as it needed to be to. Be able to create, to be able to teach Pilates and focus on all these things. Like I, I know he didn't mess up on the way he designed my brain. So I think it's like, if anyone listening, struggling with how they're created, if maybe they're, they think a different way than everyone else, or they look a different way.
I mean, there's literally a reason for it. Like, he didn't make a mistake when he created you in the womb. Like, it's just, he's so detailed like that. It's just, it's very beautiful to think about that.
Abbie: Yeah, and I love that that's kind of redirected you to like, oh, this must be where God's calling me because there's an ease and there's a grace there, and I don't have that same grace of cover.
There's just no ease. There's no peace when I'm, I'm trying and striving to do this other thing, and I need Adderall to stay focused and get anything done. That's not where God was calling you. [00:12:00] That is so cool that that's even an indicator too, and I think the enemy really comes in and twists things too.
And then we'll start making you feel guilty and she will like, oh, like you can't concentrate and you need to, you need this medication, and you have some sort of either. A deficit or you're deficient in some way and you're not good enough and that's why you need this thing. And it just invites a lot of guilt and shame, whereas, oh no, that is actually something that the Lord, like he designed you in a specific way to focus and be so energized where he's called you and the enemy comes in and twists it and makes it something bad.
Callie: Yeah. It's so interesting. even think about like. In school. the path that everyone is pretty much called to do in college is go work a nine to five job where. Going to be an entrepreneur. it's not that you'd say the the what wide path.
Like it's, it's definitely a more of a different path. Not saying there's anything wrong with working a corporate job. some people are called to that, but I think it's interesting how our society, I've noticed, tries to kind [00:13:00] of mold everyone to be a certain way when there's a reason why everyone's created differently.
even in the church, we have literally a fivefold ministry, like without. different gifts in through the spirit. the church wouldn't be able to function the way it does. Like we have the apostles, we have the prophets, we have the evangelists, we have all these different things for a reason.
So it all as one body, we can all work together in these different giftings.
Abbie: Right. And I love that Paul in the New Testament makes that connection between how everyone in the church, like we all have a function and we're a different body part, and the body doesn't function, if not all the parts are coming together and functioning.
Yeah. Well and are healthy. And so, and just that connection with the human body too, in a way that we would understand how intricately he made the human body. How much more is the body of Christ? So good. So true. Yeah. And I also think too, people need to hear the gospel from people with different testimonies because not everyone would receive [00:14:00] it the same way.
if we all have the same stories, we need different stories and different experiences. And also from people in different body types too. Yeah.
Callie: Yeah. That's so true. That's so good. I was like actually talking about that the other day, how people that I know in my life who they have reached people who maybe were not Christians and because they are the way they are, they were able to reach these people and share the gospel in ways that maybe I wasn't able to.
it's so interesting to me Like you're reaching people who are overcoming eating disorders, who are overcoming toxic relationships with their body like you are. You're being called to that and your testimony and all these things you've experienced have prepared you for those things, like God's prepared you for those things where it's like he's calling me and down a different path and it's just so beautiful how he has different callings on all of our lives, but they're all so important.
Abbie: Exactly. Exactly. And I think when we reject parts of our story, parts of our [00:15:00] body, things that we've been through and have experienced, number one, maybe even like blocking God's glory to be revealed or for that to be used for as a testimony for someone else. But in a sense, we're kind of dissing God.
Like, oh, I don't like that part of myself. But God actually designed that. That was his handy work. He sees as, as a masterpiece. He thinks that part is fearfully and wonderfully made and we're rejecting it. That's offensive to God.
Callie: Yeah. Yeah. That's so good. if you look at the scripture above it, it's about Salvation Hall.
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we've done, so none of us can boast about it. We talked about this earlier too. I know I've fallen into this trap of like, oh, I need to earn God's love. Oh, like my works are gonna get me more of his love or no, like he already sent his son a diet for us.
'cause he loves us as we are. he sees us as our heavenly selves. Like he doesn't look at you or me and go, oh yeah, like that was her past, or That was yada yada. Yeah. Like he sees us as, he created us as his children, literally as his children. So I think [00:16:00] that's also really important to think about too, is, I mean, we don't need to earn salvation or earn his love like he already.
He already gave that to us. It's a gift.
Abbie: That's so sweet. Yes. And how does that change now how you approach exercise and especially now that you have a faith-based business, how does that change how you approach exercise?
Callie: So I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I'm perfect because I mean I'm gonna be real, like I definitely am still overcoming toxic body image.
Intrusive thoughts, whatever you wanna call it, strongholds like I am breaking those down with the Lord like day by day. But I think that something that has really helped me, especially with this ministry, is when I truly just invite Jesus into what I'm doing, when I decide to listen to him, instead of listening to the mean girl chatter box from the enemy, that is when things shift.
Like it's really interesting to me because. Like we do [00:17:00] have a choice every day, like what voice are we listening to? And I think recently I was doing some inner healing work with the Lord and I really learned that I wasn't trusting God. Like there had been this area of my life in my past where I.
I had stopped trusting God. I didn't trust him. I felt like he had failed me, and that he failed me, is a lie because God never fails. He's unfailing. So I think it's important, like if maybe someone listening is struggling with their relationship to fitness or to eating. go deeper with the Holy Spirit and ask him where did this first begin?
Because you might be surprised, like it might not even be around the area of eating that something started or around fitness, that something started. Maybe it was something that a kid at school in second grade said to you that has stuck with you and started to plant a seed of lies about how the Lord created you or who God is.
'cause that's what the enemy wants. He wants us to grow away from the Lord. He doesn't want us to grow close to the Lord. So. It [00:18:00] really is a choice every day. Who are we going to listen to? Who are we going to hang out with? Is it Jesus or is it the enemy? 'cause I don't wanna hang out with the enemy. I wanna hang out with Jesus.
Abbie: Exactly. Exactly. Now, are there tangible things that you or you recommend that people that are in your classes do to help invite Jesus into our like movement experiences?
Callie: Yeah, for sure. I think firstly, the music that we're listening to,
Abbie: that's huge. Yeah.
Callie: Our eyes and our ears. oh man, it, it's so important to be mindful what you're exposing yourself to.
And I think music is something that is huge. If you look at, I don't wanna give light to the enemy too much at all, but if you look at what he did in heaven before he came to the Earth, he was, I believe he was like the director of music or something like that was his thing. And it's interesting, if you look at it from a spiritual perspective, how a lot of the music industry is genuinely so demonic.
It's so corrupt, it's so dark, it's so sad. And so filled with a lot of different spirits. So it's very important, like what music are [00:19:00] you filling your ears with while you're working out? Is the music that you're listening to, is it making you feel lustful? Is it making you feel like a lot of vanity? Is it bringing these thoughts about in your mind that are not from God?
So music is number one. It doesn't have to be like. Worship music from church, like that type of worship, like there's not that, I mean that's amazing music, but like if you need a hyper kind of music, there's Christian rap that's fire, there's Christian House music, there's Christian pop, the music industry is shifting and the Christian.
Artists are taking over for,
Abbie: they're I Forest Frank. I actually just for a spring concert because he came to Nashville a couple weeks ago. Best concert I've been to, I'm sorry. It's awesome for getting saved. Like it was an incredible, I mean, he just brings the house down and his stuff, it's such a bop. I love working on kids stuff.
Callie: It's so awesome. So like the music, it is literally huge. That's changed everything for me. And then number two is. Affirmations. I [00:20:00] am a huge, huge advocate for what are we speaking over ourselves? Our words hold power, truly. If you look at in the Bible, Jesus cursed a fig tree with his words. And then in Genesis, God spoke our world into existence.
He used his words to speak things out and no, this is not manifestation because that's a copycat of the Lord. The Lord's the original creator of. The power in our tongue. He literally is. So I think it's important, like what, are you speaking over yourself? Are you cursing yourself with words? Are you saying, I'm ugly, I'm fat, I'm stupid, or are you saying I am worthy through Jesus?
I am a royalty through Christ. I'm God's child. I'm his, I am a precious Ruby. Like what are you saying over yourself? Yeah. And. I used to have, I ti need to do again, I took them down, but I had sticky notes on my mirror of affirmations about my identity in Christ and I would read them out loud, even if I didn't believe them.
I would just start to read them out loud asking God, help me to truly [00:21:00] believe what I'm speaking over myself. Invite Jesus into these things. Sometimes it feels so hard to overcome any sort of intrusive thoughts, any toxic body image, but we can't do it by ourselves like we need the Lord in these things.
So when you're working out affirmations in Christ, ask him to give you the affirmations about yourself. Write them down. Keep them nearby. Also, I think it's important to just continuously talk to the Lord while you're exercising. You're like, God. Thank you for my strong abs. Thank you for giving me a body that can move.
Thank you for giving me breath in my lungs, asking Jesus like, Hey, like what do you think about this? I was doing a workout class this morning. Oh my gosh, it was so funny. And I was on the rowing machine and I was like, Jesus, like what are, what are you doing right now? And I just thought about how he literally would sit in a boat and row with his disciples and I was like, oh my gosh.
Like we're we.
Abbie: I love that. That's so sweet though. It's fun. And this just goes to show [00:22:00] like we don't just want God to be, the first thing in our lives, like yes, it's important, but God wants to be at the center Yes. Of everything.
Callie: Yes.
Abbie: Yes. I think that's such a good example of. Like you staying close to the vine, you abiding in him and he's abiding in you by You looping him into that exercise experience. That is so good. I like the constant dialogue. That's great.
Callie: It's so fun. Like it literally everything that we do, you guys just ask God, what do you think about this? what do you doing right now? I like love it so much. You feel like a, literal child.
even in the workout class I was in today, the music was very like, I was like, oh boy, like I don't like this music. But I was asking God, I was like, what do you think about all this? And he was like, I love these people so much. And it kind of stripped away that judgment I was experiencing.
And I was like, okay, music aside, like these people are in really awesome. Like they're so kind and so loving. So it was just like really cool to just have that continuous dialogue and then also just crowds out any sort of room for the enemy to come in with like a mean thought. 'cause you're just chatting with the Lord constantly.
That's
Abbie: good.
Callie: Yeah, and I'm trying to [00:23:00] think of anything else, but I think truly listening to your body as well. I mean you preach this a lot with eating. Our bodies do signal what they need. So if your body feels painful when you're going running, okay, maybe ask God like, Hey, what's a better workout I can do?
He
Abbie: will help you. He'll help you. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I don't think we should really rely on our own understanding of what to do, but asking God and He'll give us that wisdom. And like you said, our bodies have so much wisdom 'cause he designed it that way.
Callie: Yeah, so true. Yeah. Just, give him your heart.
Be like, good Lord. Like my desire is to, I wanna be a good steward of my body. I wanna take care of my body. You've given me a body to take care of. It's a temple of the Holy Spirit. So I think just like laying it down, asking him for wisdom and how to design your fitness routine and where to go. I've been wanting to add some resistance training to my life and I was looking at gyms yesterday and it was.
So wild, Abby, because I applied for like the free trial and it was gonna send me an email. [00:24:00] I entered two different email addresses. Neither of them got the email in the spam and the inbox, and I asked God, like, Hey, please block this if it's not something that you want me to do. And he did.
And so I didn't go. So it was just,
Abbie: it's wild. Yeah, it was so interesting. Wow. Wow. And I've prayed too, like, Lord, if you want me to join a gym, like I need you to give me a budget. 'cause everything is so expensive around here. Should I do class batch so that I sign up with a specific studio? What should I do?
Yeah. they gave me a budget of $60 a month. I heard that number, like specifically in mine. Literally like the studio that was here and I actually ended with them. But I did that for a time where I felt like the Lord was calling me there. It came in at $59 a month. Can't make that
Callie: up. Alright. So I'm
Abbie: like, okay, I guess I'm supposed to be here.
Like, that's crazy. so he will give you that. Specific number and like those specific things if you ask that is such a cool story that he blocked those emails. That's crazy.
Callie: I know. I at first I was like, what is happening? Like, why is this so difficult? And then I was like, okay, [00:25:00] okay, Lord, what's going on?
Abbie: Or just redirecting you. Oh my goodness. Yay. Well, is there anything else that's coming up for you with Ephesians two 10? Anything else that the Lord's been laying on your heart with this?
Callie: I think in terms of. His plan and purpose for our lives. you just need to fully surrender whatever you're doing at his feet.
Even if you already know you're doing his purpose for your life, continuously surrender it to the Lord. It is very easy if you're not careful to fall into striving. To also make things about yourself if you are not mindful about it. Pride. Pride. Make sure pride doesn't slip in. that's something that I recently learned about.
especially with Sunshine Pilates like it has, the Lord has definitely blessed it. He has given it a lot of favor, which has been beautiful, and it's been a continuous like, okay, Lord, I'm gonna lay this down at your feet. Actually surrender it. If you want this to happen, [00:26:00] please make it happen. If you don't, please close that door so fast in my face.
Just please, Lord. Like I think that is how we truly continuously surrender things at his, feet, even if he calls us to things. I think about, my last thing I'm gonna say is I think about just in the Old Testament, the story of Saul and David. It is really interesting. Saul, he. Really started slipping up with jealousy and pride, and the Lord had put him in that position, but it's when he let those things enter his life is when his downfall really began.
So I think it's very important to just be mindful of those things. Even if the Lord has called you to something, it doesn't mean that you just block the Lord out of that thing. Like no, he wants to do it with you. And it's really important that we remove ourself from his calling on our life.
Abbie: Wow, that's so good.
Just bringing us back to humility. He's not making us a masterpiece so that we can be more desirable or be chisel or something like that. But he has already declared [00:27:00] us a masterpiece and it is to do the good works. He is not, you know, in our workouts getting us into like this different body so that we can, look good in a bikini or a wedding dress.
But it is for the good works that he's planned for us.
Callie: And even with, I have one more thing I have to share, you guys. I just thought about it even with body image. You know what he's shown me as of really recently the past few days it's very much performance based if you're desiring a specific body type to attract attention.
To yourself. that's the spirit of performance. That's literally a performance belief system. So if that's something that you've been struggling with, I really encourage you guys get with the Lord in it. I had to, 'cause that was something I struggled with and I was like, okay, this is not from God.
Like I feel this heaviness around my body. And so yes, get with the Lord in that. Because performance is not from him.
Abbie: Mm-hmm. Wow. But operating from a place of [00:28:00] acceptance. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So good girl, you got so much wisdom. Well, thank you for being on. Let us know like where we can find you and how to, get, involved with everything that you're offering.
Callie: Yeah, you guys, I have an in-person Pilate studio. If you're local, I'll just, drop it now, but you guys, it's, oh. I, I can't share everything yet. Anyways, we have a, a very, very exciting thing happening with the studio. God has blessed us with this absolutely insanely amazing space.
And it's gonna be in Stewart, Florida. So if you're in Stewart or South Florida, port St. Lucie, Palm Beach, Jupiter, whatever, like definitely come by. Even just make a, make a trip, we'd love to have you. also, if you aren't local or nearby, we have a YouTube channel. It's called Sunshine Pilates as well. And also we're on socials, Instagram, TikTok, so definitely go check it out.
My podcast is healthy, but human if you wanna listen to more things like we talked about today.
Abbie: Yes, absolutely. And we did a [00:29:00] podcast swap, so, we'll let y'all know. We'll definitely link up the, episode in the show notes so y'all can listen to, Cali's podcast as well. And I'm just, I'm so excited, like God really has his hand on you and you are his handy work and.
You are doing amazing things for the Kingdom, so thank you so much for, just sharing what he's been putting on your heart lately and everything that you're doing. It's amazing.
Callie: Aw, thanks girl. Thanks for having me. What an honor. You're awesome.
[00:30:00]
