Your Daily Bread Podcast-8: [00:00:00] if you spend more meals with Jesus, really intentionally inviting him in and being present with him versus distracting yourself while you were eating, how much more wisdom would you have? How much deeper would your relationship be with him?
Welcome to Your Daily Bread podcast. I'm your host, Abbie Stasior, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor. My prayer is that these bite-sized episodes will help you heal your relationship with food and improve body image, as well as help you grow closer to God. Now, I can't personally heal you, but each week I'll be directing you to the one that can, and that is Jesus. As a disclaimer, I'm not a pastor, but a sister in Christ providing you with some food for thought for you to bring to the Lord and into your quiet time as your daily bread. Let's dig in. Hello. Hello. Welcome back to Your Daily Bread podcast. I am so excited for this episode. I know that I say this every week, y'all that. I'm excited for [00:01:00] this week's episode, but I genuinely do get so excited and this scripture is one that I have used with so many clients and. Bringing this scripture up on client calls and sessions has led to a lot of breakthroughs, a lot of aha moments, and a lot of profound encounters with the Lord in a deeper relationship and intimacy with Jesus.
Your Daily Bread Podcast-8: And isn't that the whole point? So I'm really excited to share this with you, and my prayer is that you encounter Jesus. In a new way when he ministers to you through not only this episode, but also this scripture. And I think that this is great for people that are new to the podcast and are just starting to incorporate their faith into their health journey, their eating journey, their fitness journey, their [00:02:00] wellness journey.
And I also think that this is good for people that. have been incorporating Jesus into their wellness journey for some time and have been listening to the show for quite some time. So I think it works for both camps of people, people that are new to the show and people that have been following along for a while because this is a great introductory scripture.
So that you can see that God does care about your eating and your relationship with food, and he wants to be involved. And if you have been listening to these episodes, and, uh, this is the only thing that I recommend that you binge on are all of these episodes. But if you've been loyal, listener, and thank you for if you have been listening, especially since the beginning.
Thank you so much. if you have binged all these episodes and you've been following along for a while, this will help you take your relationship with food to the next level, which I'm really excited about. So let's dive in. Father God, thank you for [00:03:00] another day. Lord, thank you for the breath in our lungs.
Lord, we praise you and thank you that your mercies are new every day. Lord, thank you for always keeping a watchful eye on us, Lord, for protecting us, for guiding us, for leading us, for having every hair in our head counted and for delighting in us. Lord. Lord, I pray that as we go into this episode that your Holy Spirit just rests on me and works through me, and that it's not what I want to say, but it is what you want to say through me.
Allow me to be sensitive to your spirit, Lord, and I pray that this message speaks so personally to every single listener and. That your spirit does what only you can do, Lord, and that through this scripture, through your word to Lord, just have it be illuminated, but have it lead to more profound encounters and a deeper relationship with you Jesus.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. [00:04:00] Today we are going to be discussing Revelation three 20. I love, love, love this scripture, and it's Jesus talking, and he says, here I am. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. It is such a beautiful scripture.
A lot of pastors that preach on this scripture. Typically talk about the first part of this and they say, Jesus is there knocking, and it's our responsibility to open the door. There is only a knob on one side. Jesus is a gentleman. He's standing there knocking. He's knocking, gonna bust through your doors because he gives you free will.
He gives you agency. It is up to us to take that [00:05:00] step. And open the door and invite him into our lives. And a lot of pastors stop there. But as a Christian dietician and someone that's here to help you heal your relationship with food, we are going to talk about this whole scripture that God wants to come into your life, every area of your life, and he wants to eat with you.
He wants to sit down and share a meal, break bread with you, fellowship with you. Teach you things, guide you on things, correct you on things. Laugh with you about things, daydream with you, goal set with you, heal you, love you, delight in you. And he wants to do that over a meal. And when we spend so much time, scrolling on our phone, eating while watching tv, eating.
In the car or distracted or shovelling food in so quickly, and we don't actually even sit down. We miss an [00:06:00] opportunity to eat with Jesus and also eat like the disciples. Jesus frequently ate with his disciples and his mealtimes with disciples. Were not just, okay guys, let's quickly fuel and then get back on the road.
We gotta go preach in some area tomorrow. It was like, no, no, no. We need to eat. Yes to refuel, but also this is time together. This is quality time together and I have things to teach you. That was part of the ministry. So often we see mealtimes as a burden. As an obligation, Ugh. Something we just gotta get through quickly to get back out there.
Jesus didn't see mealtimes that way. He saw that as part of the ministry. That was part of it. That was part of his teaching and healing. Rapport building, relationship building, that was part of it. And when we don't eat with Jesus and are intentional about that. I think we [00:07:00] rob Jesus of an, of an opportunity to, to really minister to us, and it's time that is built into our day, multiple times a day.
Hopefully you're eating at least three times, three meals a day, and if you're not to start there please, but three times a day, couple snacks. Those are all opportunities to eat with Jesus.
How many ministry opportunities , are we missing? How many words are we missing? if you spend more meals with Jesus, really intentionally inviting him in and being present with him versus distracting yourself while you were eating, how much more wisdom would you have? How much deeper would your relationship be with him?
I don't know. And it's not that God can't teach you the things that he would teach you if you actually sat down with him at lunch in other ways. Of course he can. but maybe he wants to share a meal with you and at least according to Revelation three 20, if we open the [00:08:00] door, he, it says that he will sit down and eat with that person.
And they with him and. I just gotta think that the Lord delights in that and he wants to do that with you. Now, what? I'm not saying that you have to eat every meal in complete silence and alone and just with Jesus. That's not realistic. And Jesus fellowshiped with people, multiple people. And so God can just be in your midst, right?
And you can acknowledge him at the start of a meal, and you could be fellowshipping with other people and. You're intentional about acknowledging God's presence, Emmanuel God with us. God is here. The presence of the Lord is here. And so when I start talking about this with patients, I said, you know, you don't have to do every meal, but start with one. And maybe for you it's breakfast. Maybe for you it's an afternoon snack. Maybe for you it is lunch, and for some people maybe it's dinner. I know if people have kids and y'all are eating together or you're going to different sports events and extracurricular activities, dinner [00:09:00] may not make sense.
That might be your family time. That might be time. With your significant other lunch, it may be time for your coworkers. Breakfast, it may be time with your family or significant other, so you know your schedule best and your cadence. But I would pick one meal or one snack to try and just have that be you and Jesus time.
And it doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule 'cause God will meet you in so many different ways and at different times. But just start with one and build from there. And. Pray, revelation three 20 at the start of your meal. Don't just pray over your meal and say, Lord, bless this meal and allow this food to be.
Allow this food to nourish me so that I can be your hands and feet. Like that is great to pray at the start of meals, but just blessing your food and allowing the food to bless you. I feel like that doesn't go quite far enough. Number one, I think we should be praying over our relationship with food.
Lord, grant me the patience to slow down when I eat. Help me to savor every bite. Help me to be sensitive to my fullness cues as they're emerging [00:10:00] so I don't eat past the point of comfortable fullness. Lord, cast out any fear that I have around eating this food and, and grant me your peace that surpasses all understanding.
We need to be praying over our relationship with food, and I think when we don't, it's a missed opportunity to. And I think we can also be praying Revelation three 20 at the start of our meals. Lord, your Word says that you stand at the door and knock. And anyone that hears your voice and opens the door, that you'll come in and eat with that person.
And Lord, so this is me opening the door. Lord, I invite your presence here. Help me to be aware of your presence. Thank you for eating with me. And help me to be patient. Help me to be sensitive to your spirit and what it's stirring in me during this meal. And Lord, help me to rest in this moment and savor this moment with you.
And I pray that this deepens our relationship in Jesus' name. Amen. Boom. Like that's, that is so amazing how now I just feel so at peace. Now I'm thinking, wow. That just even you just praying that [00:11:00] prayer at the start of the meal gives you a couple seconds, 30 to 60 seconds to settle your spirit before you start diving into your food.
Not only does it invite God's presence in, but it settles your spirit before eating that's gonna calm you down to prepare your vessel to accept food because. We don't eat well when we're so stressed and anxious and rushing and shoveling food in. We don't digest it well, and we don't absorb the nutrients from that food well.
So praying before meals is definitely essential and something that I recommend. Praying over your relationship with food at the start of meals is definitely something I recommend and praying. Revelation three 20, inviting God in intentionally spending at least one meal a day with Jesus. Just you two, one-on-one is going to make a huge difference with your relationship with food, your prayer life, and your relationship with Jesus, so I highly, highly, highly recommend that you do that and carve out time for that.
And I think that the scripture is really cool [00:12:00] for people that are just learning about this, that like, oh, wow, God wants to be involved in my health journey. And so seeing a scripture like this. Like, wow, he wants to eat with me. He ate with his disciples and he wants to eat with me too. God cares about that.
Wow. Like this scripture can really blow people's minds. It's like, I didn't even know that was in scripture. I've, I've heard so many clients say that like, wow, I didn't know that. Jesus, I know he wanted to eat with those disciples, but I didn't know he actually wanted to eat with me. It's like, yes, he does.
He wants to be at the center of every aspect of your life, especially your relationship with food. And so, and if you have been working on healing your relationship with food, with God, and healing with a faith-based approach and blending, inviting God into your health journey, if you've been doing this for a bit, I really believe intentionally praying the scripture will deepen your intimacy with Jesus, and it makes room for the Holy Spirit to convict you of things, to guide you on things and teach you [00:13:00] things during your meals.
A lot of people that I work with, I would say the majority of the people that I work with are very busy, high achieving people, got a lot of things on their plate, and especially us as women, I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to always get our quiet time in, and it's important. Of course.
Sometimes it doesn't happen though, so we have to give ourselves grace. And some days when I don't have time for my quiet time. I rest easy and I'm like, oh, I'm relieved that Jesus wants to meet with me at my meal times because I'm like, Lord, okay, I'm gonna have three, at least three meals today for at least 20 minutes.
And if I meet with you those three times, that's an hour of quiet time with you. And sometimes we don't always get that, but even if it's just one meal and you have 20 minutes with God, if you missed your quiet time that morning, that's okay. 'cause you're gonna meet with Jesus during your meal. And so he's always, he's always there.
Always ready. Like a gentleman standing at the door knocking, we just have to invite him in. And so Revelation three 20, I just pray that it is a great comfort to you and that it gets you [00:14:00] excited and that you want to open the door and invite him, and knowing how eager he is to eat with you. And I hope that you're expected for what comes out of those meal times.
'cause I hear so often from clients, Hey, wow, Abby, I, I prayed Revelation three 20. I really invited God's presence into my meal and I didn't watch TV or listen to a podcast while I was eating. And this is what God revealed to me. I was like, wow. Like people have had some of the most profound encounters and amazing revelations when they actually share a meal with Jesus.
And it's so cool to see. So I just pray that that happens for you too. And if God does reveal anything to you, please send me a DM on Instagram. I would love to hear what the Lord reveals to you and how he's moving in your life and what, what he's teaching you, what he's showing you. Oh, God is just so amazing and this scripture is so, so good.
God cares about your eating. He dearly, dearly, loves [00:15:00] you. And there are things that he wants to tell you over a meal.
