S2. E11. God cares about your eating
===
[00:00:00] that's how you eating something like Cheez-Its. Can give God glory because you could be eating Cheez-Its now with Jesus. Cheez-Its with Jesus. Um, I think we need to make that a small group.
It's giving Revelation three 20.
Jesus ate with his disciples all the time. Doesn't he want to eat with you too? when we stiff arm God, and we don't include him into certain areas of our lives because either we think it's too trivial, he's got bigger fish to fry or there's shame there, whatever the reason is, we are not taking.
Into account the point of the crucifixion and the resurrection and what Jesus did for us on the cross. Jesus did not just die to forgive our sins. He resurrected to restore our union with him to be in friendship with us.

Welcome to Your Daily Bread podcast. I'm your host, Abbie Stasior, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor. My prayer is that these bite-sized episodes will help you heal your relationship with food and improve body image, as well as help you grow closer to God. Now, I can't personally heal you, but each week I'll be directing you to the one that can, and that is Jesus. As a disclaimer, I'm not a pastor, but a sister in Christ providing you with some food for thought for you to bring to the Lord and into your quiet time as your daily bread. Let's dig in. Hello. Hello. Welcome back to Your Daily Bread podcast. I am super excited for this week's episode. I hear so often from people when I start working with them that they don't believe that God cares about their eating and the little details in their lives, and he most certainly, most certainly does . so Father God, thank you so much [00:02:00] for another day.
Lord, we praise you. For the breath in our lungs. Ah, and that your mercies are new every single day. Lord, I pray that your Holy Spirit just does what only you can do. Lord, Lord, have your way. I pray that you minister to every single listener and. That they feel delighted in, that they receive more of your love and deeper revelations of who you are.
Because when we understand who you are, Jesus, we know who we are in you. Lord.
Thank you for never taking your eyes off of us, never leaving us, nor forsaking us. And I pray that what is said in this episode is not what I want to say, but what you want to say through me, Jesus. Thank you Lord. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Let's open up to Psalm 37, 23.
[00:03:00] The Lord directs the steps of the Godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
Hmm. Thank you, Lord.
This verse is so simple, but it is so profound. The Lord is going to order your step. And he's going to do that, not because he's trying to control you or manipulate you. It is because he delights in every detail of your life and he doesn't just care. He delights in it. It gives him joy. Like think about something that just delights you, your morning cup of coffee.
Your young child laughing with someone, a joke, a hobby or or sunshine. What do you delight in? And that light, giddy feeling, I [00:04:00] just feel like that is what the Lord feels towards you and those little details of your life because he knit you together in your mother's womb. He so intimately knows you, intricately made you, he has gone before you, and is has good plans for you in your life, and he cares about all the little steps it takes to get there.
Now, when we relate this to our relationship with food, I will frequently say to clients, and I've said this a lot on the show. That you want to partner more strongly with the Holy Spirit and ask God, Lord, how do you want me to eat?
How do you want me to steward my body? Am I hungry now? And is this a physical hunger? Is this an emotional hunger? I wanna make sure that you are continuing to turn to God for these things so that you can partner with him in this area of healing your [00:05:00] relationship with food and just stewarding your body overall.
And when I tell clients to do that and to ask God and that I'm not just gonna give them a meal plan, but ask God and see what he says, I'm doing that so that you can build that muscle of turning to him in all areas and especially this area.
And clients will always say to me that. They feel like it's trivial. They're like, God has bigger fish to fry than caring about or being concerned about what I'm going to eat on the side of my sandwich for lunch today. Whether that's chips or baby carrots. Like, does the Lord really care about that? Does he care if I'm going to dip my carrots in ranch or hummus?
Is he really that concerned? Well, his word says that, yes, he delights. In every detail of their lives. So he cares. . So we want to loop him in. He's eager to give you direction. He wants to order your [00:06:00] steps in that way. He wants to be involved. And I think when we stiff arm God, and we don't include him into certain areas of our lives because either we think it's too trivial, he's got bigger fish to fry or there's shame there, whatever the reason is, we are not taking.
Into account the point of the crucifixion and the resurrection and what Jesus did for us on the cross. We're not taking full confidence in that and honestly, frankly, we're not fully appreciating it because Jesus did not just die to forgive our sins. He resurrected from the dead to restore our union with him to be in friendship with us. And Jesus said that it was better that he go so that we could get the Holy Spirit. And we know that the Holy Spirit dwells within us. [00:07:00] So we are never to be separated from God again, and he is closer than our skin.
Why would God do that if he didn't wanna be around us and didn't care about us being around for all those little details. Otherwise, he would just swoop in when the big things came up. No, he wants to be there for every single detail. He wants to do life with you. He wants to be in union with you. And I talked about this in my bonus episode about my birthday.
The 20 things I've learned in my twenties, now that I'm 30. So if you haven't listened to that episode yet, definitely go back and listen to that, but that was a huge revelation for me. In my twenties is that salvation is not just about eternal life. Yes, it is. That of course, it is also an invitation into a relationship.
An invitation into the nature of the relationship that Jesus has with the Father. Jesus says, I will be one with you as I am one with the Father. And that is done through what [00:08:00] Jesus did on the cross and because of the Holy Spirit that we are now in union with God
And when you are so close with a friend, with a significant other, anyone you're in relationship with, you, talk, talk, talk about those small, trivial details of your life. I have a dear, dear friend, I'm gonna have her on the show soon. And she was a previous client of mine. , We met through TikTok and I started to coach her and then she started to coach me.
And it just blossomed into a beautiful, beautiful friendship and we'll voice memo each other, what we're eating all the time, and the little details. We voice memo each other every day, and I'll be five minutes into a voice memo.
And I didn't even get to the crux of what I really wanted to say to her in the voice memo. The first five minutes were just me recapping my morning routine and what I ate for breakfast.
And so God wants to be invited into that. We assume by our earthly thinking that he wouldn't want to be involved in those details. but we miss out [00:09:00] on deepening our friendship, getting that direction and that wisdom from him.
And connecting with him on a deeper, deeper level. I had a client that, we went over the scripture a million, million times and she really did not believe that God cared about her eating. And at this point when we were coaching and working on healing her relationship with food, we were working on having her have peace around eating. A lot of foods were forbidden for her in her household, and one of those foods was Cheezit. And whenever she got access to Cheezit, she knew that was her only time to have Cheez, so she would binge on Cheezit.
So now she is. Gotten into a habit of binging on Cheez-Its, and she struggled to give herself permission to eat them without guilt or shame, but then also to eat them in an appropriate portion size where she's really honoring what her body needs at that time. And I showed her this [00:10:00] scripture and she said to me on one of our sessions, she's like, Abby, I don't even believe that God cares whether I eat Cheez-Its or not. Like why would he care about those details?
Like it just seems so trivial and he probably doesn't even want me eating cheeses anyway. Like Jesus didn't eat cheese to the Bible. Like, you know, Jesus didn't eat a lot of things that we eat today because they weren't around. But that doesn't mean that they're necessarily all bad to eat. Romans 14 talks about that, and we are going to be doing a Romans 14 study in June, so definitely look out for that because there's a lot of points I wanna make going through that whole chapter in Romans.
It is. So, so good. But I showed that client specifically this verse, Psalm 37 23. The Lord directs the steps of the Godly and he delights in every detail of their lives. And I said, God cares whether you eat Jesus or not. He cares about whether you have peace around food. He cares about healing your childhood trauma around food.
And she, she didn't believe me, but I said, okay. You know, I'm gonna plant that seed because God's word is the truth and this is what he [00:11:00] says. And y'all, I'm not even kidding that Next Sunday we talked on a Thursday, literally that Sunday after we talked, guess what the sermon demonstration was at her church.
It was with a huge box of Cheez-Its y'all. I cannot make this up. God cares about those details. She said she just started weeping. She felt so loved by God and so seen by God. What a beautiful thing. What a gift, and how cool is that? Obviously her pastor had no idea that someone sitting in that sanctuary, in that auditorium needed to see a huge box of Cheez-Its and have that sign from God, but God will truly.
Go to any league, to call out to you. And so if you are doubting this scripture, ask the Lord about it. Go to him about it. Say, Lord, show me in what ways you delight in the details [00:12:00] of my life. Like how small are the details that you care about? And Lord, show me. And he will show you.
He will reveal that to you so that. You can receive more of his love and also receive his direction because when we stiff arm him, we miss out on him directing our steps a missed opportunity to continue to deepen our friendship with God.
'cause if you think about someone that you, you are friends with or in a close relationship with, you do tell them all the details of that you do involve them in those details, especially what to eat. So of course we wanna be doing that with Jesus.
It gives him joy and what a beautiful thing that is. So that's how you eating something like Cheez-Its. Can give God glory because you could be eating Cheez-Its now with Jesus. Cheez-Its with Jesus. Um, I think we need to make that a small group. I think we need to make that a small group.
Okay. Cheez-Its with Jesus. Um, I will be starting that in Nashville. If you are in the local area, please let me [00:13:00] know. It's giving Revelation three 20. You can be eating Cheez-Its. In a way that glorifies God because you are communing with him and spending time with him and realizing that, , God cares whether you have peace around food or not. He wants to help you in that area and be involved in your meal times.
Jesus ate with his disciples all the time. Doesn't he want to eat with you too? I believe he does. So I hope that this gives you joy. This has, you feel seen and loved by God, and my prayer is that you loop him into those details because he doesn't just care, but he delights in those.
