[00:00:00] Lectio Davina is less about doing, more about being, and more about receiving. It is like in First Samuel, when Samuel says, speak Lord for your servant is listening .
welcome to Your Daily Bread podcast. I'm your host, Abbie Stasior, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor. My prayer is that these bite-sized episodes will help you heal your relationship with food and improve body image, as well as help you grow closer to God. Now, I can't personally heal you, but each week I'll be directing you to the one that can, and that is Jesus. As a disclaimer, I'm not a pastor, but a sister in Christ providing you with some food for thought for you to bring to the Lord and into your quiet time as your daily bread. Let's dig in.
Hello. Hello. Welcome back to your Daily Bread podcast. I am. So excited for this episode. We are going to be doing a scripture meditation style [00:01:00] episode. We've done these in the past, and this spiritual practice is called Lectio Davina, or Divine Reading or Divine Scripture. We are gonna be taking a couple verses of scripture and reading them through multiple times to allow the Lord to speak to us through His word and.
I am very big on number one, making sure that this show is very actionable, very practical for y'all. But I also wanna keep y'all progressing in your faith and giving you more tools for your toolbox on how to interact with God, and grow an intimacy with Jesus. And I have found that.
Teaching clients and patients, more spiritual practices that you can bring into your quiet time, into your sabbaths, into your prayer closet is going to better equip you to hear from God and build that relationship with him. And it's in that relationship that everything changes. So I can't personally heal you, but I can [00:02:00] pass on the revelations that God has given to me and I can pass on the knowledge of different spiritual practices that will equip you to better your relationship with God.
So I'm super excited for today. The way that Lectio Davina works is it helps you to not treat scripture like a textbook, but instead treat scripture like a love letter. Scripture is the living word, and it is like a double-edged sword that as you read it, it reads you back I have found that so many of us treat.
Our quiet time, like checking a box that we just need to plow through that chapter and finish that devotional read whatever you're supposed to do for your Bible in a year plan. And there is a time in place for that in looking at the Bible, like a historical document and getting the context in looking at different commentaries.
Yes, absolutely. But if we only do that, if we stop there, then we miss. [00:03:00] A huge part of what Scripture does for us and really how it can transform us. Lectio Davina is less about doing, more about being, and more about receiving. It is like in First Samuel, when Samuel says, speak Lord for your servant is listening by lingering a little longer on a few verses.
Coupled with stillness, silence, solitude, all of that combined is a great recipe for the Lord to come in and speak to you.
So I pray that, this will be very fruitful for you today, and I pray that the Lord meets you in this and. I pray that even if you don't get a word from him that he's still good. And this is still going to be effective in planting seeds because this is the word of God and it does not come back void.
And I pray that you will grow [00:04:00] in this spiritual practice and lean in. So. This episode is something that you can listen to while you're driving, but ideally it's something that you do in a more meditative, relaxed state. So if you're able to sit down, get in a comfortable position, maybe uncross your legs, put them down, flat on the floor, put your hands in a comfortable position in your lap, and maybe with your palms up.
As a sign of surrender, a sign of receiving, and I want you to just relax into this present moment as we transition into Lectio, Davina, and I want you to just focus on your breath, take a couple deep breaths in and exhale out.
Inhale again in and exhale out.[00:05:00]
And as you settle into this moment and become attuned to your body, present with yourself, opening your heart to God, I'll go through the instructions for Lectio Davina, and then pray us in. So Lectio Divina is when you take a couple lines, couple verses of scripture, and you read through those four times.
The first read through, I want you to be listening for what is the word or phrase that stands out to you? What's hitting your spirit? Then we'll sit in silence for a little bit as you digest that. Then with the second read through, I want you to be listening for how does that word or phrase what the Lord has for me today?
How does that apply to my life right now and what I'm going through right now? [00:06:00] And we'll sit in silence again. And if you need a longer time in silence than what I provide on the episode, please feel free to pause the episode in between read throughs. The third time we read it through, I want you to be listening for God's invitation.
What is God inviting you into? What is he asking of you? What is his invitation? And I want you to sit in silence for a longer period of time here because sometimes with scripture, the Lord is inviting us into something. And we have some resistance with it. Lord, that sounds great. But what about all this?
So this is a time to hear the Lord's invitation and dialogue with him.
Tell him your honest desires. Tell him your hesitations. Tell him everything that comes up for you. [00:07:00] Where are you resistant? What questions do you have? What excites you about this? And dialogue with him. So we'll spend a little bit longer of a time in silence and always know that you can pause the episode if you need more time.
And hopefully in this session you reach some sort of resolution or natural closure to that conversation. That can always be continued on afterward. So then for the fourth read through, you can just rest in the Lord, rest in his word. And my prayer is that you get something out of this, but it doesn't end here.
You can always pick up this conversation with the Lord after this, and I pray that you do continue. So it doesn't stop here, but you continue to linger and dive deeper and continue that dialogue with the Lord. So as you're sitting in a relaxed [00:08:00] state.
I want you to repeat after me. This is a very simple prayer of benevolent detachment, a prayer that helps you cast your cares to the Lord, a way to offload things that are weighing heavy on you onto. The shoulders of the only one that can bear the weight so that you can make room to hear from God. You can put things in his trusting hands so that you are not distracted in this present moment.
So I want you to repeat after me either out loud or in your head. Jesus, I give everyone and everything. To you,
Jesus. I give everyone [00:09:00] and everything to you, really cast every care to the Lord, and maybe in your head or out loud names, specific things. Maybe it's your to-do list, your finances, your notifications, your next appointment, and your family. Your career, your desires
offload everything to Jesus. And one last time, say, Jesus, I give everyone and everything to you.
Father God, thank you so much for your presence. Lord, thank you for your easy yoke. Lord. Thank you for bearing the weight that we cannot bear. Thank you, Lord for never leaving us nor forsaking us. [00:10:00] Thank you for keeping us in the palm of your hand. Lord, you are so infinitely powerful, but so intimately present.
Thank you for having every hair in our head counted and having more thoughts about us than there are grains of sand. You are laser focused on each of us, every single listener. Thank you. Lord, I pray that as we go into your word, that it is like a double edged sword, that as we read it, it reads us back.
Lord, I pray that words are just illuminated off the page and things hit the hearts and spirits of every single listener, and that there is clarity in what you want them to focus on and receive in this session, Lord. So I just pray against any distractions or self-deprecating thoughts. And he attacks from the enemy, Lord.
[00:11:00] And I just pray for peace. I pray for focus, quiet, divine wisdom and revelation, visions,
and I pray for a deeper unfolding of who you are, Lord, and who we are in you and your abounding love for us, Lord, because we know. That everything in life comes from that place.
And Lord, I pray that in this session that your spirit does what only your spirit can do in Jesus name. Amen. So stay with with your eyes closed, relaxed. I'm gonna be reading from Isaiah 43. Verses 15 to 19, [00:12:00] and in this first readthrough, I want you to be listening for
what word or phrase sticks out to you?
I am the Lord your holy one. Israel's creator, your king. This is what the Lord says to you. He who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there never to rise again. Extinguished, snuffed out like a wick.
Forget the former things. Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing now. It springs up. Do you [00:13:00] not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness, in streams in the wasteland.
In the second read through, I want you to be listening for how that word or phrase, whatever stuck out to you, applies to the season that you're in, in your life right now and what you're going through.
I am the Lord. Your holy one, Israel's creator, your king. [00:14:00] This is what the Lord says.
Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness, in streams in the wasteland.[00:15:00]
And in this next read through, I want you to be listening for. God's invitation and I'll give you a little bit longer time for some silence in between this and the last read through, but feel free to pause the episode if you need more Todd to dialogue with God.
I am the Lord. Your holy one, Israel's creator, your king. This is what the Lord says. He who made a way through the sea, [00:16:00] a path through the mighty waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there never to rise again. Extinguished, snuffed out like a wick.
Forget the former things. Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing
now. It springs up. Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness, in streams in the wasteland.[00:17:00]
And in this lastly, and in this last read through I, and in this last read through just rest in the Lord and His Word and in his goodness. I am the Lord. Your holy one, Israel's creator, your king. [00:18:00] This is what the Lord says.
Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams. In the wasteland.
This is the word of the Lord. Thank you Jesus. And as you come back to this present moment, you can open your eyes, [00:19:00] take some deep breaths,
make sure to journal down whatever the Lord revealed to you, whatever stuck out to you. Thank you, Lord.
And I would love to hear how the Lord came to you, what came up for you what that experience was like for you. So please send me a DM on Instagram 'cause I would love to chat with you back and forth and see what the Lord is revealing into your life and what word or phrase resonated with you.
And if you like this style. And you want more of this? I do scripture meditations with my monthly membership community, the Godly Girls group, basically every month. So we have a group chat, all women that are working to heal their relationship with food and grow closer to Jesus.
We're all in a group chat together supporting one another. It's like an online small group, an online discipleship group. And I'm in there answering questions and we meet once a month for a monthly group call, and I either do a scripture [00:20:00] meditation or I teach on a certain topic. So, If you like the style and want more of that and want more community, the Godly Girls Group would be a great place for you to start.
And if you know that you need more support with healing your relationship with food and you're ready to dive in one-on-one, then definitely book a free 20 minute Food Freedom in Christ call. On that call, we'll go over how you're currently eating and I will give you some initial.
