[00:00:00] did the Lord.
Tell you to go keto. Did the Lord tell you to start the carnivore diet? Did the Lord tell you to cut out carbs? 'cause you may be doing things trying to steward your temple well in the name of quote unquote health Holiness righteousness. You're making a sacrifice. But are you being obedient to how the Lord actually wants you to steward your body? .
welcome to Your Daily Bread podcast. I'm your host, Abbie Stasior, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor. My prayer is that these bite-sized episodes will help you heal your relationship with food and improve body image, as well as help you grow closer to God. Now, I can't personally heal you, but each week I'll be directing you to the one that can, and that is Jesus. As a disclaimer, I'm not a pastor, but a sister in Christ providing you with some food for thought for you to bring to the Lord and into your quiet [00:01:00] time as your daily bread. Let's dig in.
Hello. Hello. Welcome back to Your Daily Bread podcast. Thank you all so much for the flood of texts and dms. Thank you for praying for me. Y'all. This cold has been taking me out. I am still recovering, but on the up and up, so I just appreciate y'all the struggle has been seriously real, but I'm really excited for today's episode, the Lord.
Put this on my heart a while ago, but he didn't call me to do an episode on it yet until now. I've had this scripture kind of in my back pocket and it has been extremely helpful for me. And I pray that it is helpful for you too, and calls you into. Deeper intimacy with Jesus.
That would be my prayer for you, that I will fully pray a sin. Father God, thank you so much for another day. Lord. Thank you for the breath in our lungs. Ah Lord, we are just so grateful for everything you did for us on the [00:02:00] cross. Jesus. We are so grateful that you conquered death and that you have set captives free, that you have come to bring sight to the blind, and you have called us to walk in freedom, Lord.
Thank you Jesus. For not just giving us life, but giving us life to the full. And thank you for teaching us how to walk in the freedom that you have for us , I pray that as we dive into the scripture, that it is like a double edged sword, that as I read it, it reads us back and you speak so intentionally, so personally, into each and every listener's lives and their current situation.
Lord, I pray that is not what I wanna say in this episode, but is what you want to say through me, Lord, and that everything is God, breathe and Holy Spirit led. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. We are gonna be getting into one Samuel chapter 15 verses 20 to 22. Saul is currently the king, and Samuel is the current prophet, but I did obey the Lord.
[00:03:00] Saul said I went on the mission, the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites. And brought bag a gog, their king. The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God, at Gaal.
But Samuel replied, does the Lord delight in Bert offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord to obey is better than sacrifice? What's going on here in this scripture is that Saul was called to fight this battle, and he did, but he was called to kill all of the livestock, all of the cattle, all of the sheep and the king do not save them, but he saved the cattle and he saved the king, but he justified it because he was going to sacrifice the cattle for God.
How often do we do this with our [00:04:00] healthy lifestyle that we do things in the name of health or because my body is a temple. I'm going to do this, but it's not something that the Lord actually called you to do. For example, there are so many people that. Cut out carbs because the world says that carbs are bad, even though carbs are totally fine.
Carbs are our body's primary and preferred energy source. It is okay to have carbs. Jesus ate bread. Jesus had carbs. We know that we need carbs for fuel, but people will just cut out carbs. They're like, oh, carbs are bad and I'm going to go on the carnivore diet, or I'm going to go keto. And my question would be, did the Lord.
Tell you to go keto. Did the Lord tell you to start the carnivore diet? Did the Lord tell you to cut out carbs? 'cause you may be doing things in the name of trying to steward your temple well in the name of quote unquote health Holiness [00:05:00] righteousness. You're making a sacrifice. But are you being obedient to how the Lord actually wants you to steward your body?
Because here's the thing, it's a lot easier to just give up carbs than it is to actually dig deep and heal your relationship with food so that you no longer have a fear of carbs, that you can confidently eat carbs in the presence of other people who would probably persecute you for it.
So I think Saul had good intentions here, but again, it wasn't what the Lord was. Calling him to do
in this case, it seems that sacrifice is Saul relying on his own understanding of what the Lord wants versus listening, to what the Lord said to him because God told him what he wanted him to do and Saul's obedience to that is success. And that's something that the Lord has really been working on with me over my [00:06:00] seven years in business is that obedience is success.
It's not more Instagram followers, it's not making more money. It's not signing more clients obedience to him. And what he's calling me to do is success. And i've been starting each morning asking the Lord, Lord, what is my divine to-do list? What do you have for me today? Because if this is your business and I'm just the steward, I'm just the manager, I'm gonna have my morning meetings with the CEO, right?
So I asked the Lord, Lord, what do you have for me today? What? Is my divine to-do list. And all I heard was go on a prayer walk during your lunch and I said, okay, God, but I gotta put these Instagram posts out for Holy Week. We gotta promote the devotional. I haven't recorded the podcast episode yet.
Uh. What are, what are we doing here? Um, we have all these other things that should be on the [00:07:00] to-do list, but the Lord said, just go on a prayer walk during your lunch. And that's what I did. And I did not record for the podcast that day. I did not create content, 'cause the Lord did not call me to do that that day.
And I had one of the most fruitful prayer walks. It was. Ugh. It was really amazing. The Lord just spoke to me so intentionally. Maybe I'll do another episode on some of the things that he revealed at another time. But because so many of you know that I'm writing a book, I'll reveal one thing. So the Lord speaks to me in signs.
He speaks to me in so many different ways, but he. Mainly speaks to me in signs, specifically the number 27. I have been seeing that number for years, and every time I see it, I know that it's the Lord. So I go on my prayer walk and I'm listening to this podcast that my spiritual director sent me, and I really felt called to start listening to it.
And I step outside and I feel the Holy Spirit prompt me to walk a different direction than where I normally walk. If I'm just doing a quick loop during my lunch break, I'm like, okay, God. Like there's a lot of construction that way, and it's really loud and a lot [00:08:00] of debris flying everywhere, but if you're calling me to walk that way, I'll walk that way.
And so I start walking that way. And I looked down at my feet and written on the ground in spray paint is the number 27. And as I'm looking down, I'm standing in the middle of the road praying to God that no car hits me. 'cause I live off of a busy street. And that moment in the podcast, they weren't even talking about books, but y'all, I cannot make this up.
, The woman being interviewed says, and if you're writing a book right now. I just want you to know that the Lord is just proud of you for getting the book written. We pray over the success of the book and we always want X amount of copy sold and we wanna make X amount of money from it.
But the Lord is just proud of you for getting the book finished and that is obedience to him. The Lord will make the book successful wherever he wants it to be successful. [00:09:00] That's his job. I just started weeping in the middle of the road and then I was like, okay, I need to get, actually, get to a sidewalk so that I don't get hit by a car, y'all.
Whew. It was so amazing and if I had been disobedient and I said no, my lunch break is, the only time that I have to make content for the day, I gotta get something out, gotta promote for holy, gotta record for the podcast.
I would've missed that divine appointment, and I knew that I was in the right place at the right time. Because I saw the number 27 and that message was just for me. And of course, as I'm looking down at this number on the ground, that's what comes up. During the po it was just, it was such a divine appointment, totally orchestrated by God.
How many of those moments are we missing? Because we're relying on our own understanding of what we should be doing. And here's the thing, y'all, I very well could have skipped that prayer walk and said, well, Lord, I don't have time to walk. I'm in [00:10:00] ministry. I need to create content for you.
I need to help people heal their relationship with food. I gotta get the word out about this Holy Week devotional that you put on my heart I'm doing these things for you. These sacrifices for you. But the Lord wasn't calling me to sacrifice anything at that time. The Lord was calling me to obedience and there's sacrifice in that, right?
Sacrificing my own understanding, sacrificing my time sacrificing my control, laying that at God's feet and. I got exactly what I needed that day from him, and he was pleased with me, even though I didn't post on Instagram that day and didn't really do anything to, in my, in my own understanding, in my mind, progress the business along.
He, he was still proud of me because I was obedient to what he told me to do. He truly will order your steps. And so when it comes to [00:11:00] our relationship with food, how often are we doing things in the name of health or because our body is a temple? But it really is coming from a worldly perspective of what is healthy, not doing to our body, what the Lord is actually calling us to do.
You might be giving up carbs and starting the keto diet or the carnivore diet because. You've heard that carbs are bad, but did the Lord actually call you into that? So what I felt the Lord say to me in prepping for this episode is that he wants us to seek more of a relationship with him versus just seeking results.
Because if you seek a relationship with him, you will know how God talks. You will know how to hear from him. I know very clearly when [00:12:00] I hear the voice of God, when I get a sign from God, I know what God's will feels like in my body. For me, it feels like an expansiveness in my chest. And if something's off, I feel very concave.
I feel tight in my chest, and so I know those subtle differences because I've spent so much time with him, and I still have a long way to go in forming a relationship with Christ. But that is the key. What is the key to getting, optimal health? The key is getting in relationship with God, seeking him first.
His kingdom, his righteousness and everything will be added onto you. Everything will fall into place and I know that sounds so simple. Obedience is simple, but it's not always easy 'cause the Lord may call you to do something that you do not want to do. He might call you to do something that you don't understand why it doesn't make logical sense.
That's where faith comes in, that you have to step out on the water, but keep your eyes [00:13:00] on him and you will not drown.
So instead of doing things for your health that you think are healthy, that you think will please the Lord, get into your quiet time, hear from the Lord on what he actually wants you to do, and be obedient to that, that is more meaningful to him. Than any diet you do any fast, you do any suffering, that you experience in the name of health.
This is not a call to go on a really restrictive diet or do an intense exercise plan.
That is not pleasing to the Lord. A sacrifice that you think is a sacrifice in pleasing to the Lord, that isn't something that the Lord told you, is disobedience,
so we need to seek greater intimacy with Jesus. If I were to ask you right now. How do you hear from God? I was able to answer that before I was, and the Lord mainly speaks to me through signs. But I do [00:14:00] hear the voice of God sometimes he just interrupts my thoughts. Sometimes I feel just how the spirit is in my body.
It is just an inner knowing. There's so many different ways that the Lord can speak to us, but how does the Lord speak to you? And if you can't answer that. That's an indicator that you need to spend more time with him, that you need to get to know God better.
That's not a bad thing, but it's an invitation to get to know him better because he has things that he wants to say to you, things that he wants to impart to you, things that he wants to correct lovingly, and he wants to see you healthy. He wants to see you walking in the food freedom that he died for.
He doesn't want you feeling insecure in your body. He died so that you could walk confidently in the body that he knit together. In the woman that he designed.
He doesn't want you blindly sacrificing things that you think will be pleasing to him [00:15:00] or doing things, what you think are, in honor to him, the best way to honor him is by being obedient. And how do you be obedient? How do you know what God is saying?
You have to know how God speaks to you and you have to get in relationship with him. And this is something that I'm gonna be talking about in my book for sure, but I also work on with clients. One-on-one during our sessions where I can really meet with you individually and help you. Figure out, when your quiet time is going to be and how do we optimize that?
And asking you how do you hear from God and what have you been hearing from God lately? And teasing that out. And, it's been extremely helpful for clients, even though they're coming to me as a dietician, helping them heal their relationship with food and body image, with a faith-based approach.
They're growing in their general relationship with God.
Which really is the whole point, and that will help you to know that you're hearing accurately from God so that you can be obedient to how the Lord is leading you so that you can steward your body the [00:16:00] way that he's calling you to and not rely on worldly ways of eating or stewarding your body. So I pray that this is helpful.
I pray that. You meditate on the scripture this week and ask the Lord, Lord, where in my life am I relying on my own understanding? What in my daily routine am I doing that is not pleasing to you, that I'm seeing as a sacrifice and something that is healthy and holy, but it's actually being disobedient to how you've called me to steward my body?
Lord, please reveal that to me. Search my heart
that would be my prayer for y'all. And if you know that you need support in this area I urge you to click the link in the show notes and book a free. 20 minute call with me that will kickstart your journey to finding food freedom in Christ.
So on that call, i'll give you some initial tips. I'll give you some scriptures that speak into your specific situation so you can trial what a faith-based approach to nutrition looks like. And I'll get a chance to pray [00:17:00] for you and that will really jumpstart your journey.
And that call is totally free. Because Jesus paid it all.
